ContextVision Announces FPGA Platform for Interventional Radiology Product

Advanced chip technology offers OEMs a longer product lifecycle and reduces energy and footprint requirements

BOSTON, Mass. and STOCKHOLM, Sweden – September 15, 2009 – ContextVision, the software imaging partner for the most recognized medical imaging manufacturers worldwide, today announced the availability of GOPView® iRVPlus on an FPGA (field-programmable gate array) platform in addition to the GPU and CPU technologies. Unveiled at RSNA 2008, iRVPlus is the company’s interventional radiology offering, which enables dose reduction of more than 40 percent without a compromise in image quality.

Originally used exclusively in telecom and satellite technologies, FPGA offers an image enhancement platform with a smaller footprint, lower heat transfer, and reduced power needs compared to the CPU or GPU options.

“By incorporating GOPView iRVPlus technology on FPGA, we increase our product’s lifecycle and, like all our products, maximize image quality and diagnostic value while reducing the overall time to market,” said Don Barry, Ph.D, GOPView iRVPlus product general manager. “FPGA technology is a dedicated piece of hardware that mitigates technological obsolescence and allows OEMs to maximize their image enhancement capabilities.”

GOPView iRVPlus is ideal for fluoroscopy procedures, such as angioplasty or stent replacement, during which real-time images are used to guide catheters to the target location. Since the GOPView iRVPlus enhances each pixel of each frame there is no temporal blurring or other artifact creation caused by multiframe analysis. GOPView iRVPlus enables a dose reduction of more than 40 percent, which minimizes both patient and medical staff exposure during a procedure, without any compromise in image quality or diagnostic value.
